Kirchmann, Johann (Kirchmannus) & Rigalt, Nicolaus (Rigaltus) DE FUNERIBUS ROMANORUM, LIBRE QUATUOR CUM APPENDICE & FUNUS PARASITICUM SIVE L. LIBERTI CURCULIONIS PARASITI MORTUALIA 1672: Frankfurt, Thomas Henr. Hauenstein 8vo G/ 8vo. [24], 1-489, [35] pp. , [2 blank], (1) -22 pp. A few page number misprints 24(28) , 196(596) , 291(391) but complete. In Latin. Smallish octavo, 7" x 4". Bound in contemporary full vellum, vellum is quite soiled, darkened, spotted in places. Notable on front cover is a neatly excised perfectly circular hole of 1.5" in the vellum, exposing the board below. Based on the darkening of the board, likely done very early in this book's history. Binding very solid. Possible very early repair or strengthening to the front and rear joints. Lovely black and red front title page with printers device. Second title page for "Funus parasiticum" with similar typography but just in black. Interior pages show foxing and browning to varying degrees throughout the book, but the paper is in good shape and easily readable. The main part is Kirchmann's (A bibliophile and philologist) treatise on burial customs in ancient Rome including funerary rites, body preparation, transporting the body and burial. The second part is very small (22pp) of satire on a funeral involving a parasite, based on Lipsius. Apartment Smallish soiled vellum
